DesignIT Travels to Concert in the Garden

Objective: Design IT Studios at Concert in the Gardens painting Star Wars Mask on Spin tables.

Time: June 22-23rd, 2007, 6pm-8:30pm

Participants: Sammie, Jasmine, Wesley, and Ashley

Activity: Design IT Studios took a very short road trip to Concert in the Garden. In the museum van, we brought spin art supplies for kids to make Star Wars mask. The concert coordinator let us in through a private entrance and showed us where we will be station. We setup the activity quickly. The interns made their example of the masked for visitors to see then afterwards, I sent the interns out to explore the area before we started our section. Visitors began to arrive at 6:30pm. At first, the visitors thought that they had to pay to make the mask. Soon when the visitors realize that it was free we were busy until the Nation Anthem song blared across the park. Kids and parents seemed to enjoy the activity mainly because it was easy to make and it gave their kids something to do while the stage people were prepping for the concert. We had 1 year old to 15 year old joining us in the activity. Masked children were wondering around pretending to be Star Wars character or Harry Potter. The interns and I had a blast both days we were out. Special thanks to the Star Wars impersonators for coming over to make a mask with the kids.
